The Nike ACG 5 Peaks Mountain Trail Running Series continued last Saturday with an 8 km grunt around Mount Seymour, starting and finishing at the main lodge via Mystery Peak and a loop around Goldie Lake.

Some 226 runners took part in the race, including a number of local Sea to Sky runners.

In the men’s Open category Whistler’s Peter Drysdale was fourth overall out of nearly 80 competitors with a time of 29 minutes 51 seconds.

Scott Pass, also from Whistler, was seventh overall in 30:39. "I wasn’t very happy with it to tell you the truth," Pass said. "I injured my Achilles tendon before the race – I shouldn’t have run it but I did, and now I’m just hoping it will heal before the Knee Knacker, which is coming up."

The Knee Knacker North Shore Trail Run, scheduled for July 13, is a 48 km trail run from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove.

In the women’s Open race, Allison Megeney of Whistler was 14 th overall with a time of 38:49. Leah Powell and Maribeth Callahan were 20 th and 21 st overall with times of 39:53 and 39:57 respectively. Amanda Hillifer was 29 th in 41:52. Beth Mercer of Garibaldi Highlands was 30 th in 42:16. Beth Dubeck of Squamish was 61 st in 52:56.

In the men’s Masters category, Sean Wolfe of Mount Currie was second overall with a time of 30:02, four seconds back of Abbotsford’s John Prins. Wolfe won the first race of the season, and is currently ranked first.

Hideo Noguchi of Whistler was fifth in 32:24. David Burke of Pemberton was seventh in 34:39.

In the women’s Masters category, Whistler’s Brenda Flann was fifth in 42:00.

The B.C. Five Peaks series will continue on July 20 with race three at Whistler-Blackcomb.

That race, which starts at the base of Blackcomb and finishes at the Rendezvous, has a vertical rise of almost 1,200 metres. It’s also a qualifier for the World Mountain Running Championships.
