Thieves escaped with stolen jewelry valued at more than $100,000 in a smash and grab at the Birks jewelry store in Whistler.

According to the RCMP report, the police were notified at approximately 5:17 a.m. on Monday morning that an alarm had been triggered at the store. Police attended the scene and discovered that the store had been broken into.

They later determined that the robbery occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m.

The thieves used crowbars to pry the door open, and once inside they smashed into both display cases and took an assortment of jewelry.

"Obviously we were quite upset," said store manager Janice MacLean. "We probably have the best security procedures in the village, so they were professionals. The response was very fast and we have full confidence in the RCMP and our security."

The police officers in charge of the investigation are asking anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044.
