A daylong benefit is being held this Monday to raise money for long-time resident and Tapley’s bartender John "Chalky" Chalk.

Last month Chalk underwent an emergency liver transplant. While at first blush it seemed the surgery was a success it soon became apparent that the organ was being rejected. Within a few weeks the liver failed.

This development has forced Chalk to take up residence near Vancouver General Hospital and expenses are piling up as he pays rent there and maintains his Whistler home for his future return.

Friends have organized a Sept. 9 benefit to help him out.

It will kick off at noon at Tapley’s Pub with a silent auction. Items include golf packages, carvings and other generously donated gifts.

At 6 p.m. Monday Night Football will start at Tapley’s and the silent auction will get another boost.

At 9 p.m. the action moves to Buffalo Bills for a draw benefit. Admission will be by donation and top prizes include $1,000 cash or a car donated by Whistler Towing.

At midnight there will be another huge draw. Whiski Jack has donated a seven-day stay at any one of 3,800 luxury RCI resort properties worldwide.

Tickets for the Buffalo Bill draw are $20 and include admission. The Whiski Jack draw tickets are $10. Both are available at Tapley’s or Buffalo Bills.
