Celebrating the end of another record-breaking year for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, the mountains are hosting their second annual Harvest Huckfest weekend on Oct. 12 and 13.

The action gets underway on Saturday afternoon with the Junk Bike Wars from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The original plan was for teams to build and test functioning bikes from a giant box of assorted bike junk and then race them on an obstacle course. After deciding that a more spectator-friendly event was in order, the organizers have turned the day into a smash up derby on bikes.

That evening it’s the Canadian Premier of Freewheel Burning at Millennium Place, which shows at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Once again The Freeride Tribe takes the sport to a whole new level with footage of huge road gaps, dirt jumping, technical singletrack, bikercross competitions, World Cup downhill footage, and the first loop every performed on a mountain bike.

Locations include France, Scotland, Utah, Kamloops and, of course, Whistler.

Riders include Bender, Robbie ‘Air’ Bourdon, Cedric Gracia, John Cowan, Timo Pritzel, Anne-Caroline Chausson, Jeff Lenosky, Ryan Leech, Richie Schley, Greg Minaar, Joe Schwartz, Wade Simmons and others.

Tickets are available at Millennium Place or by calling 604-935-8414.

On Sunday morning, the WORCA Max Vert Enduro returns for a second year. Competitors see how many laps of the bike park they can make between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Last year the top male managed 11 laps of the downhill course, and the top female completed 10 laps. This year the course will likely include two different trails, switching over at the halfway point.

There are categories for men, women and juniors.

The entry fee is $10 with a lift pass and $20 without. All the proceeds from the Max Vert Enduro go towards WORCA.
