Movie premieres, schmooze fests, V.I.P treatments, red carpets. This sounds like Hollywood, not Whistler. But hey, most of you seem up for big events, so here’s a list of your options during the Whistler Film Festival.

Tommy Africa’s starts the ball rolling on the Thursday night, hosting the Dogtown and Z-Boys After Party. $10 at the door, or if you see the movie beforehand, you get special treatment and only pay half the entry price. Mat the Alien will be spinning most of the night.

Saturday night is the mother of the film fest festivities with R-Rated: The Party , at the Garibaldi Lift Co. Warning: This party contains scenes of a mature subject matter. A rude movie perhaps? Who knows? What can be revealed is DJ Vinyl Ritchie and Lady Precise will be working the decks. Discretion is not recommended at this event and tickets are $25.

Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. is the Shortfest, featuring an eclectic collection of the festival’s best short submissions. Here’s a sample:

• JET: details the eye-opening events that take place after a group of shoplifters are caught in the act, and shows how one crime can multiply into 10.

• Moosh: A policeman with a crumbling marriage and an often-absent wife finds an abandoned baby in an alley one night. He takes the child home until Social Services opens. Taking care of the infant brings about a touching reconciliation between husband and wife.

• Brownie Points: Trixie Veronica is the world’s oldest living Brownie. At 30, there is a whole lot more to earning badges and doing good deeds then we have been led to believe.

• Lemonade: A dark comedic tale of the horrific events that perpetuate life in a small southern town.

• Death’s Dream: In the aftermath of a car accident, a man meets a woman he believes is his guardian angel.

• Dirty Water: About three young girls’ fascination with kissing boys.

• Sparky D Comes to Town: Sparky is planning a wild night of dancing and drug crazed debauchery. But when Dad pushes him into picking up a family friend from the airport, things get complicated.

Tickets to the Shortfest are $8.50.
