Who: Solid Earth Jam Band
Where: Boot Pub
When: Monday, Jan. 6
Nothing better than a longtime local jam band to make you feel at home during the silly season. Members of the Solid Earth Jam Band are making their way to the Boot for some Monday night madness and everyones invited.
Like many jam bands, Solid Earth cover a lot of ground during a set. Theyre very folk oriented but display all the makings of rock n roll, blues and R&B thanks to the high calibre of experience within the collective musical ensemble.
Singer, songwriter and guitar player Douglas Kerr said Solid Earth never really intended to be a jam band, but because of the way their songs are structured thats what they have become.
"I write with a story line and a theme and then incorporate a section where the other musicians can open up and let the music breathe a bit. I guess thats how we got grouped with the jam band genre," he said.
The label has stuck and as each musician over the years has done loads of side projects, its a term they are more than happy to hold on to.
"The musicianship is phenomenal. Weve got Latin and rock guitarist Todd Taylor, who is a regular on the city blues scene, and R&B bass player Darren Paris. Two of the guys from She Stole My Beer are also in the band, drummer Jeff Hicks and keyboardist Jordan White," said Kerr.
Solid Earth will let a few new songs out of the bag this Monday night. In The Hands Of The Thief is a song inspired by a recent trip Kerr took to Vegas, while the funky dance track called If I Think Youre All Right is about taking care of someone whos had a few too many drinks. Perhaps also penned from that trip to Vegas.
