On Sunday, Jan. 19, the Windermere Whistler Extreme Volleyball team travelled to Port Moody for a B.C. Volleyball Association Tier I/II tournament, facing some of the top women’s teams from around the Lower Mainland.

The Extreme started the day well, beating a Vancouver team in two games. They faced a team called the Cobras in their second game, losing in the third set after splitting the first two games. They went on to lose two close games against team Maxed Out to finish third in their pool.

In the playoffs, the Extreme faced another Whistler team, Unamus, and won, advancing to the semi-finals. There they faced a tall, strong team from the University of Victoria, and lost two close games, 25-23 and 26-24. In the end they placed third out of 12 teams.

The Extreme were helped along by the strong blocking and hitting by middles Shelly Ledingham, Kat Frew and Veronica Voracek. Laura Wetaski, Jan Budge and Georgina Titus provided defence and power hits. Jennifer Johnson and Carlee Howell were consistent in the middle with their setting.
