Moe Joe’s refused extended hours

Moe Joe’s will not be allowed to host an apres ski event during Altitude Eleven this coming week because they have violated the Good Neighbour Agreement.

The nightclub asked the municipality to extend its regular hours so that it could be open from 3:30 to 6 p.m. for four days next week in order to host apres ski for guests coming to Whistler during the annual gay and lesbian ski week.

"Ours would be the only venue that would be available to these people," said Andrew Flynn, owner of the club.

But RCMP Staff Sergeant Hilton Haider was reluctant to grant the extension because Moe Joe’s has had a faulty track record following the Good Neighbour Agreement.

Last year the club was warned and also suspended for overcrowding.

Bars and nightclubs must get approval from council in order to get extensions.

"The issue here is for us to support our RCMP," said Councillor Ken Melamed.

"My interest is for your operation to know how seriously we take the Good Neighbour Agreement. It was refused by the RCMP and my feeling is to uphold that."
