Whistler to host races on upper Dave Murray
The Disabled Skiers Association of B.C. is hosting its annual B.C. Disabled Alpine Ski Championships this weekend with events on Saturday, Feb. 8, and Sunday.
The races take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the top of the Dave Murray Downhill run, and there is an open race on Sunday.
The course is being set by Whistler’s own Phil Chew, a former paralympian and head coach for the B.C. Disabled Ski Team,
One skier to watch out for is Whistler’s Brad Lena, who has spent six years with the B.C. team, and last year qualified for the national development team. Another is paralympian Steve Napier, who recently moved back to Whistler after more than four years away. He learned to sit ski at the National Sports Centre for the Disabled in Winter Park, Colorado in 1997, and went on to represent Great Britain at the 2002 Paralympic Winter Games in Utah.
