Ever wanted to know what your favourite local female musician was singing about but couldn’t hear the words over the din at the bar?

How about those singing and songwriting sensations out there in the Sea-to-Sky corridor – ever wished people picked up on what you were actually saying?

Well then, there’s a match made in heaven coming your way with the first ever bi-annual Tuned Women showcase, to be held at MY Place next month.

Initially designed for female performers only, Tuned will give musicians the chance to share their music in a professional setting and meet other like-minded artists and fans. They will have the opportunity to jam and discuss their pieces with the audience, who will receive programs with the song lyrics.

Tuned Women is the brainchild of two local singing, songwriting women, who are responding to a call from the community to get their songs heard. Whistler youth outreach worker, Tessa McLoughlin and MY Place marketing manager, Gillie Easdon want to create an evening celebrating the talent and sprit of local female musicians.

"There are so many women in Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish who play music, original music," said McLoughlin, herself a touring veteran. "I am consistently being told ‘I wish I could have heard your lyrics,’ so Tuned Women will hopefully solve that problem."

Tuned Women is open to female musicians of all ages and musical genres and the work must be original. Auditions will take place Wednesday, March 26 from 9 to 11 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Call 604-935-8410 to set an audition time.

The final performance will take place on April 25 and tickets will cost $9.95.

This event is a fundraiser for the Whistler Community Services Women’s Support Group and MY Place.
