Search on for freestyle snowmobilers

If your idea of a good time includes a two-stroke snowmobile and a huge table top jump to do supermans off of, you may be right for the third annual World Freestyle Snowmobile Competition.

If your idea of a good time includes a two-stroke snowmobile and a huge table top jump to do supermans off of, you may be right for the third annual World Freestyle Snowmobile Competition.

Similarly, if you like to watch this kind of thing and don’t want to pay $15 to get in, you might want to help out as a volunteer.

Organizer Linda Stang is holding an open casting day for interested individuals on March 30 in the café at the Cinema 8 Movie Theatre, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The event itself will run on Good Friday, April 18 at the Pemberton Stock Car Association track from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and feature DJs, freestyle motocross jumping, and lots of freestyle snowmobile action including some of the top local riders. The list so far includes BJ Murray, Jason Fentiman, Rob Alford, Chris Dimma Scott Rattray, Grey Rodier and newcomer Cory Derpak.

For snowmobilers sitting on the fence, the event provides an opportunity to be discovered as local filmmakers responsible for the Roops of Hazard and Slednecks movies will be on hand to record the action. The event will also be televised at a later date by media sponsor TSN.

Tickets for the event are $15 and can be purchased at Westbeach, Tapley’s Pub, Bestsellers, and Showcase Snowboards.

In addition to the spectacle, the event was also created to generate more awareness of backcountry safety issues and motor sports.

If you are a snowmobiler or dirt bike enthusiast who wants to participate in the competition, contact Linda Stang at 604-902-1111 to book an interview between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. Three gate staff and four security personnel volunteers are also needed. Serious inquiries only.
