A small group of Whistler gymnasts participated in the annual Twisters Invitational meet in Abbotsford this past weekend, and, as usual, everyone came home with something.

Competing in the Open category (over 14 years old), Natasha Quinn was eighth on vault, seventh on beam and fourth in the floor exercises.

In the Tyro category (11 and 12 year olds), Frances Moody and Niki Sadler faced a field of more than 40 competitors, and came away with a few strong placings. Moody was fourth on beam, and Sadler was fourth on floor, and eighth on beam and vault.

The Invitational also presents awards to individuals for outstanding performances, as determined by the judges. Sadler was given an award for her floor routine, which was remarkable considering that the Whistler Gymnasts train on a spring floor that’s half the size of a regulation surface.

In the Novice category (13 and 14 year olds), Holly Hetherington came home with the only other special award presented at the meet for her beam choreography.

The next test for the Provincial Level 2 team is the B.C. Championships in Port Coquitlam in April. The Level 1 and KIP gymnasts will attend the Flicka Invitational on April 12.
