What: Lifesongs

Where: MY Place

When: Saturday, April 26

If the news is all a bit depressing of late, one way to cheer up a bit is with some soaring soprano soothers.

Sue Klassen will fill your ears with joyful sounds, drawing from an eclectic "something for everyone" program. She’ll sing gospel and Broadway show tunes centred around love and relationships. There will be a section of contemporary Easter sacred music, there’ll be original compositions around world peace, AIDS and terminal illness, and some new age meditative pieces.

Klassen will be directed and accompanied on piano by Martin James, a distinguished and well-known figure in Vancouver Island music circles and the recently appointed Minister of Music at Whistler Village Church. Believing in the inherent ability of music to heal and to build self worth and dignity, Martin’s music therapy work with terminally ill children and their families has been recognized nationally and internationally. Currently Martin is mounting the Canadian premiere presentation of Sing For The Cure, a choral work featuring 10 choral pieces and 10 narratives of breast cancer survivors, their stories and their family journeys. This project is part of a new "wellness ministry" project which Martin started in 2000.

This time of year holds significance for people of many faiths, and also for those who wish just to celebrate the arrival of springtime. Whatever your reason for wanting a smile on your face, Klassen and Martin would love to see you.

Tickets for Lifesongs are $17 for adults and $12 for children, available through Whistler Village Church 604-935-8450 or Ticketmaster 604-935-8418.
