Calling all actors: it’s time to go pro

If you’re known as a drama queen, an attention seeker, a practical joker, or just have a natural love for the arts, then some open-call auditions could be just up your alley.

The Quantum Theatre Company along with local drama teacher and professional actor, Neil Schell, want to bring monthly plays to MY Place and they need a cast base to work with.

If you’d like to give acting a go, then start rehearsing a two minute contemporary audition piece and book your audition time, to be held June 17 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at MY Place.

Rehearsals will be no cost to the actor, and lead roles in any production will be paid. Equity and non-equity alike are welcome.

If interested actors, amateur or professional, are unable to make the set audition time, it is recommended you still call and leave your details: 604-935-8410.

Give Grease a go

Guys, dust off your old letterman or leather jackets and drown your scalp in Bryl Cream.

Girls, put your hair in a pony tail and boogie in those bobby socks for Grease is the Word.

This Friday and Saturday night will see more than 70 local kids moving to "Grease Lightning", and being "Beauty School Drop-outs" in an effort to be "Hopelessly Devoted To You". The youthful dance interpretation of the hit musical that’s been wowing audiences for more than three decades has been a labour of love and loads of rehearsals for these kids, so get out and support their efforts.

Tickets to Grease are $9.75 for adults, $8 for teens and seniors and $5 for kids from the MY Place box office Ph: 604-935-8418. Showtime each night is 7:30 p.m. Dressing greasy and ’60s style is highly recommended.

Atomic Hooligans hit Tommy’s

Who: Atomic Hooligan

Where: Tommy Africa’s

When: Sunday, June 8

Based deep in the Hertfordshire countryside, two troublesome lads have been meddling with everything break beat since the early ’90s. That would be pesky Matt Welch and Terry Ryan. Their hooligan attitude towards music is that they simply refuse to follow the path already walked.

That’s led to all sorts of troublesome vinyl collaborations with Ragga Twins, Aquasky, Tayo, Ziggy, 2Sinners, Maz and Cousin Vini. Last year saw even more mischief as the boys became guest DJs on London’s extremely popular Kiss FM and Roni Size's Sounds of Now on Ministry of Sound Radio.

Other dodgy capers have included mixing compilations for the Hooligan's long time label Botchit and Scarper, multiple DJ trips to Spain and the current North American tour that brings them to Whistler. Watch out, Atomic Hooligan will keep you up all night hanging out with the riff raff. Doors at 10 p.m.
