Funds from the seventh annual Mountain Building Centres/TIM-BR-Mart Charity Golf Tournament will go towards upgrading X-ray facilities in the Sea to Sky corridor.

Dr. Laverne Kindree, chair of the Squamish Health Care Foundation, said that while the $3 million price tag to upgrade to digital radiology is not final, all three Health Care Foundations in the corridor have agreed that the upgrade is necessary.

Digital radiology will allow the Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish health care facilities to share X-ray images via e-mail, eliminating the need to transport X-rays.

Funds from this year’s and future golf tournaments will be committed to the purchase of the equipment. The commitment of the Squamish Health Care Foundation to purchase the digital technology will be a corridor-wide effort.

Tournament Chairman Brian McIntosh said: "Our list of supporters is not as large as prior years, however with our connection with TIM-BR-Mart we hope to be able to continue to bring in sponsor groups to participate in this tournament."

Larry Cornwall, acting manager of the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club, said this is the one tournament that continues to gain support among golf club members and the executive.

The tournament grew out of a commitment from the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club during the hospital fund drive in 1997 and since then has been a major contributor to the Squamish Health Care Foundation. Since 1997, more than $230,000 in funds have been raised through the tournament.

Tournament administrator Bill McNeney said that the with Mountain Building Centres/TIM-BR-Mart as the main sponsor and with the support of the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club organizers will work hard to exceed last year’s total of $43,446.

This years tournament is Sept. 8.
