"It's not all about pot," insisted Vancouver's Watermelon Girl about The Grow Show.

"The title is a metaphor for a workspace, a community where we can grow as artists." She paused. "But we do get high a lot."

The comedy night, however, will feature fringe comics, obscure musicians including the infamous Wet Spots, scantily clad girls, and multi-media of questionable taste, rather than a plethora of somewhat illegal substances.

Watermelon was voted one of Vancouver's Top Ten Most Dangerous People by Loop Magazine in 2001. She appeared last September for the third time on the cover of High Times Magazine and was the MC for the 2001 Honour the Goddess Cannabis Cup, held annually in Amsterdam.

Her countless appearances include The Vancouver International Comedy Festival in 2000 and 2001 with Go Naked or Go Home, and she was the only woman invited for the Hard Core Comedy segment. Every year she is honoured to hand-out the awards for the Wreck Beach Bare Buns Run, Canada's first and only nude marathon.

Fresh off her second arrest at Wreck Beach in three years, for allegedly trafficking ginger-snap cookies with extra snap, Watermelon has introduced the Watermelon Legalize it Defense Fund to help pay the escalating legal cost of being Watermelon and she will be accepting donations at all live performances, as well as on her Web site at www.melongirl.com

Arrested, incarcerated, or censored, Watermelon is unstoppable.

Doors for The Grow Show open at 8 p.m., with the show commencing at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance at Buffalo Bill's and Fiber Options (604- 905-3181), or $12 at the door.
