At the crack of dawn on Oct. 4, a group of 95 Samurai of Singletrack riders will begin an odyssey on Whistler’s bike trails that is expected to take anywhere from six to 12 hours.

The list of singletrack bike trails selected by contest winner Lee Harrison is long, and while the ride is not as technical as last year’s race, it’s no cakewalk either.

In its first season, the course was 43 km in length, and included 18 local mountain bike trails. Last season the course was 55.5 km, including 19 trails.

The year the trail weighs in at 63 kilometres, beginning on Alpine Way at precisely 7:13 a.m. in the morning – sunrise.

It includes Rick’s Roost, Mid-Flank Trail, Binty’s/Billy’s Epic, Rebob, Rainbow Flank Trail, Cheap Thrills, New Beaver Lake Trail, Danimal, Whip Me Snip Me, Lower Beaver Pass, A River Runs Through It, Bart’s Dark Trail, Emerald Forest Trail, Cut Yer Bars, Lower Panorama, Thanksgiving Trail, Green Lake Loop, the new 24 km Comfortably Numb trail, and the Molly Hogan Consumer Trail to the finish at Lost Lake Park. There are a total of six checkpoints on the route.

Competitors are urged to eat and drink all the way, and to help each other along the way. If you noticed someone has been injured, bonked, or broken down, inform the next volunteer you come across.

When you reach the new bridge over Wedge Creek, riders should check the time. It takes two or three hours to finish the trail from that point and the sun sets at about 6:50 p.m.
