Arts patrons to be honoured with new award

The Whistler Arts Council and Whistler Chamber of Commerce announced a new Whistler Business and the Arts award last week.

The Whistler Arts Council and Whistler Chamber of Commerce announced a new Whistler Business and the Arts award last week. The award will recognize a local business or individual business leader for "significant impact on, or contribution to the local Whistler arts and culture community."

Nominations are currently being sought from the arts and culture and business communities and will close on Nov. 17.

The nominations will be reviewed by a five-member jury, comprised of representatives from the arts council, the chamber and individuals in the community.

Eligibility requirements are that the business or individual has supported local arts and heritage events and programs in the last calendar year through sponsorship, volunteerism, or the donation of professional services or products or a link to a marketing or public relations campaign. The jury will also consider arts-related businesses that demonstrate support for the arts above and beyond basic commercial benefits, or an individual businessperson who demonstrates exceptional leadership, creative vision and commitment in encouraging and developing partnerships between business and the arts.

Nomination forms are available from the Whistler Arts Council office at MY (Millennium) Place.

The inaugural award will be presented during the Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Dec. 17 at the Westin Resort and Spa.
