The fifth annual Tour for a Friend, a program by the Canadian Cancer Society and Cops for Cancer, raised $230,000 this summer as 13 law enforcement officers pedalled 600 km in seven days.

The tour started in Whistler, and travelled through 15 communities. In each community the tour would stop to participate in fundraising events hosted by local supporters; police detachments, schools and community groups.

Colin Worth of the Squamish RCMP said, "Reaching a total like this is only possible when everyone works together. The communities, police officers for the different detachments, and the cancer society all worked together."

The money will go to fund pediatric cancer research and programs for children and their families. In total, the Tour for a Friend has raised over $2.7 million in B.C. and the Yukon.

Preparations are already underway for the 2004 Tour. To get involved, call 604-235-8470, or visit the Web site at www.tourforafriend.com.
