The Vans Triple Crown snowboarding series kicked off at Breckenridge, Colorado last weekend with halfpipe and slopestyle competitions.
No Canadians qualified for the pipe event, but a pair of Canadians took gold in the slopestyle event.
In the men’s slopestyle, Guillaume Morisset of Stoneham, Quebec, blew away an all-pro lineup of boarders with a final score of 87. 3, almost three points ahead of Andreas Wiig of Finland and Josh Dirksen of the U.S.
Guillaume’s run, which included a switch backside 900 off the first table top, was good for a prize purse of $12,000 as well as a spot in the U.S. Open and X-Games.
Vancouver’s Natasza Zurek won the women’s slopestyle event with a clean run, sticking landings, finishing her grabs and linking her combinations.
In winning, Zurek surpassed some of the top slopestyle riders in the world, including Americans Tara Dakides and Hannah Teter.
The last time Zurek and Morisset competed together at a pro event in the U.S., they both walked away with wins in the U.S. Open halfpipe.
