Buck stops here
One of the coolest cats to ever come out of Canada, Nova Scotia hip-hopper Buck 65, will be coming through Whistler on Jan. 21.
Fresh off the release of CD Talkin' Honky Blues , Buck has distinguished himself in the saturated world of hip-hop with his unique blend of quirky but intense rhymes delivered straight up via rough-edged vocal chords that sound like he just woke up with a whiskey hangover.
An enigmatic persona that flips between redneck rough and urban street savvy, Buck's a Beastie Boy for the new Millennium, minus all the public growing up the iconic New York trio had to go through to end up in their current incarnation as innovative and thoughtful rhymemasters.

We so horny - 2 Live Crew to play Garf's
In the early '90s a gaggle of over-the-top hip-hoppers showed the fun side of rap with a rash of sexually charged, but ultra-fun dance floor shakers. Sir Mixalot implored girls to "do side bends or sit ups but please don't lose that butt." Salt 'n' Pepa pushed girl's locker room talk to a new level of crudeness, and the dorks in Digital Underground got everyone doin' the Humpty Hump.
But none of the above made as much of a splash as foul-mouthed Florida rappers 2 Live Crew, whose debut album As Nasty/Clean as They Wanna Be , with it's ridiculously catchy flagship single Me So Horny was so far from nice they had to release it twice.
There's no better way to salute the newly hip '90s than with a visit from the original crude-sters and their requisite posse of babes in thongs. Yep, 2 Live Crew is still around and they're going to be at Garf's on Wednesday, Jan. 21, to show a new crop of booty shakers how it's done.

Czech back to the Kitchen for some soul food
At 11 years and counting Tommy Africa's Soul Kitchen Sunday night is one of, if not the longest running club night in Canada. It's hosted a crop of killer talent lately with Bassnectar's Lorin up from the Bay Area, Soul of Man stopping in from the U.K., and Calgary favourites Small Town DJs rocking a two by two last Sunday.
But this week the tables are turned over the man that got the Kitchen cooking, Vancouver's DJ Czech who'll be on the decks with a set of old school dance beats. It'll be a vintage set by a wily veteran with crates as deep as the pit Gandalf fell into at the end of LOTR No. 1.
