Sustainability speaker series resumes Jan. 22

After a year and a half’s hiatus, Whistler. It’s Our Nature will resume its sustainability speaker series on Jan. 22 with a presentation by Coro Strandberg, a former chairperson of VanCity Savings Credit Union and a leader in socially responsible investing through Strandberg Consulting.

Strandberg works with businesses, non-profit organizations, governments, retailers and manufacturers to promote social, environmental and democratic practices. Some of her clients include VanCity, Mountain Equipment Co-op and the World Wildlife Fund.

At VanCity she helped to establish the VanCity Community Foundation, the VanCity Capital Corporation, and International Community Investment Deposit and Ethical Funds. Since then she has branched into other areas of sustainability, promoting corporate social responsibility and working with the B.C. government to develop a community economic development strategy and Green Economy program.

Her current projects include the launch of a Values-Based Business Network in Victoria and a Victoria Sustainability Centre.

Her presentation in Whistler will focus on how individuals, communities, businesses and non-profits can advance sustainability in the marketplace by making smarter investments and purchasing decisions.

The 2004 Sustainability speaker Series is presented by the Whistler Early Adopters of the Natural Step framework, a group that includes Whistler-Blackcomb, the RMOW, Tourism Whistler, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, AWARE and Whistler One Hour Photo.

Speaker events are free, and Whistler. It’s Our Nature hopes to follow Strandberg’s presentation with speakers in February and March.
