An overcast sky and warm, rainy conditions took their toll on the field for the second event in the Kokannee Valley Race Series last week, with just under 50 skiers and snowboarders taking part in the giant slalom on Gandy Dancer. Still, fewer competitors means better odds when it comes to the draw prizes, including a pair of Atomic skis.
Although there were close competitions in many categories, the closest was in the men's pro race where Whistler Mountain Ski Club coaches Rob Boyd and Sead Causevic once again battled it out for the top spot. This time it was Boyd who finished on top, completing two runs in one minute, 30.23 seconds, 0.85 seconds faster than Causevic.
Snowboarders Ryan Bowland and Ronald Pari also made it close with times of 2:18.24 and 2:19.16 respectively.
If you missed the race, the next KVRS event is on Jan. 29 on the Upper Dave Murray. You can register on race day at the Dave Murray Video Hut at the top of the Garbanzo Chair, or in advance at any Whistler-Blackcomb Guest Relations or Ski School Sales location.
The Adult Weekend Race series kicks off Feb. 1 with a giant slalom on Lower Franz's. You can register for that event at Raven's Nest, or in advance at the usual locations.
The Pontiac Race Centre under the Emerald Chair is free to the public every day for training.
