Mountains bring back Living the Dream contest

You don’t have to be retired to win the Whistler-Blackcomb Living the Dream contest, but it definitely helps.

You don’t have to be retired to win the Whistler-Blackcomb Living the Dream contest, but it definitely helps.

Last year George Huxtable, at the age of 84, beat the competition by skiing 99 days out of 99 days to win a prize pack from Can-Ski and Showcase. The second and third place finishers were both in their 50s.

"I couldn’t believe how many days some people skied, especially retired people," said Jeremy Roche, marketing co-ordinator for Whistler-Blackcomb. "With all of the professional skiers and riders living in Whistler, and the people who work at night, I thought the winner would be in his or her 20s. It’ll be interesting to see who wins again this year."

Whistler-Blackcomb is bringing the competition back again, from January through April. All season pass holders are eligible to win prizes at the end of every month, and the grand prize of a pair of skis or a snowboard with bindings at the end of the contest. The winner will be announced during the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

Huxtable, who turned 85 two weeks ago, is gunning for the Living the Dream title once again.

"Of course I’m going to try to win this contest again," he said. "I skied this much before the contest and I will continue to ski every day.

"I’m in for the competition. I’m a skier and a glider and I always want to go higher and faster than the other guys."

You don’t have to enter the contest – just get your pass scanned, and Whistler-Blackcomb will take care of the rest.
