A grandmother of eight who has owned and operated a call centre for 14 years has been awarded the 2003 Business Person of the Year award by the Squamish Chamber of Commerce.
Lillian Lyle of Connections Message Centre was chosen ahead of four other contenders to win the business award, while local stalwart Bob Brant won Squamish’s 2003 Citizen of the Year award.
Brant has donated more than two decades of his life to community service and is also the co-chairman of the Squamish Olympic Bid Task Force.
President of the Squamish Chamber of Commerce Gord Prescott said the Chamber had chosen both individuals for their outstanding contribution to the community.
"These awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge and thank role models like Lillian Lyle and Bob Brant who go beyond the extra mile and make a real difference," Prescott said.
"It’s quite an honour," said Brant. It’s pretty gratifying, especially in a community full of people who contribute."
The 2003 winners were formally presented their awards at the Chamber’s 70th Annual General Meeting and Presidents’ Banquet on Jan. 31.
