No, I wasn’t lost in Mongolia but Colin Angus was! On Thursday, Feb. 19 th at 8 p.m., Colin will be presenting a slide show of his amazing trip down the Yenisey River and providing a commentary as well. His book, Lost in Mongolia: Rafting the world’s last unchallenged river, will be available for purchase and signing. This event is part of the Celebration 2010 Whistler Arts Showcase which is sponsored by the Government of British Columbia, the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Whistler Arts Council. Colin Angus began his adventuring career at 19 with a five-year, mostly solo, offshore sailing odyssey. He has co-produced two documentaries including Yenisey: River of Extremes (runner up for the People’s Choice award at the Banff Film Festival) for National Geographic. When not in the field, Colin shares his adventures with the public through presentations and articles. Publications he has written for include Cruising World, The Globe and Mail and Explore.
Based out of Vancouver, he is currently preparing for his next adventure. No sails, no engine – just pedals, skis and oars. From Vancouver to Alaska, across the Bering Strait and Siberia into the Russian heartland, Angus and Tim Harvey will document their trek through landscapes of the rugged, fragile north. Through this journey the men hope to highlight and raise funds for the David Suzuki foundation, an organization leading the way to combat climate change. As well, the adventurers will be partnering with Canadian schools, using adventure as a medium to inspire and motivate in the classroom.

Junior Book Club
The Junior Book Club will meet on Thursday, Feb. 19 th from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library to discuss Andrew Clement’s book, Frindle . This is the story of clever Nick Allen who decides to turn his fifth grade teacher’s love of the dictionary around on her, and invents a new word and begins a chain of events that quickly moves beyond his control.
Canada Reads
During the week of Feb. 16th, 2004, the Canada Reads panelists will discuss, debate and deliberate over these five titles. This year’s panelists are: Measha Brueggergosman (soprano), Glen Murray (Mayor of Winnipeg), Francine Pelletier (Filmmaker and journalist), Jim Cuddy (musician) and Zsuzsi Gartner (author). The books to be discussed are:

At the end of each day's discussion, CBC Radio host Bill Richardson will call for a vote, asking the panelists to eliminate one book from the list. On Friday, Feb. 20th, we'll know the title Canada Reads.
