Overnight commute sparks discussion.

Employees who commute from Squamish to Whistler for night shift work are asked to add their input to a discussion about transportation in the corridor.

The informal meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 3 at 7 a.m. in the Empress Ballroom of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. It is scheduled to last about one hour.

Management representatives from the Property Managers Group and Whistler Blackcomb management are also asked to attend the meeting.

"Our thought is we are just going to try to understand (the issues)," said Kevin Toth, general manager of the Chateau Whistler.

The overall goal of the exercise is to begin raising a consciousness about the commute between Squamish and Whistler, particularly for shift workers who begin at 11 p.m. and end their day at 7 a.m.

Last month five Whistler hotel night shift workers were killed in a head-on collision in Squamish on their way home from work early in the morning. A father and son also died in the crash.
