The popular Big Sexy Funk night from Vancouver’s Shine nightclub, described by one fan as "funkier than James Brown’s socks," is starting up in the Creek.
Run by Mountain Promotions, Big Sexy Funk North is being launched tonight at Dusty’s and will continue every Friday.
Funk North boasts a resident turntable crew that includes DJ Vinyl Ritchie, a.k.a. Scott Arkwell, also a resident at Big Sexy Funk Vancouver, and local DJ Rosco spinning hip-hop, funky breaks and whatever else gets the crowd bouncing. Local favourite Mat the Alien will also be making regular landings.
In addition to the DJ lineup, Big Sexy Funk North will be hosting regular live funk and hip-hop events. Appearing next Friday, March 19 will be MC Aceyalone of Freestyle Fellowship fame along with hip-hop collective The Visionaries.
Tonight’s launch party will feature Vinyl Ritchie and Rosco on the decks, with a promise of surprise guest performers. The launch is doubling as the first year anniversary bash for Mountain Promotions, who will be celebrating by giving out birthday cake at midnight.
There will be no cover charge for the launch party, with doors opening at 8 p.m.
