The Blackcomb Freestyle Sky Club held its own in the first Canadian Series competition of the season last weekend at Cypress Bowl, facing athletes from provincial teams across Canada as well as members of the Canadian development team. There were no age categories.

There was lots of snow during the week but the conditions turned icy for the moguls on Saturday, and competitors had trouble controlling their speed and often had to pull up.

The BFSC’s Keltie Hicks skied aggressively but concentrated hard on her turns to finish seventh in a field of 29 women. Eddie Hicks also poured in on, throwing a big backflip with an iron cross on the second air, but lost turn points with too much speed in the top section. He settled for 23 rd out of a field of 59 skiers.

Sunday’s heavy snow resulted in the cancellation of the day’s dual mogul events, with the course turning to slush and the danger level going up on the jumps.

The BFSC’s competitive team, which includes Dana and Shane Jensen, Eddie and Keltie Hicks, Zack Glanzberg, Drew Diggins and Cam Doyle is heading to the Canadian Junior National Championships at Silver Star this weekend to compete in moguls, dual moguls, big air and halfpipe.

Following the nationals the skiers will return to Blackcomb for a spring break camp where they will be practising new jumps at the aerials site behind the Glacier Creek lodge for the B.C. Championships at Apex in April.

The spring break camp is open to all skiers, and the club will also be offering a big air and freeride program for the month of April for skiers that want to work on their skills and get ready for the superpipe qualifier for the World Skiing Invitational.
