Local artists looking for tips on how to take their work to the next level will want to put aside Saturday, April 17 for the Whistler Arts Council-sponsored portfolio development workshop.

Local artists looking for tips on how to take their work to the next level will want to put aside Saturday, April 17 for the Whistler Arts Council-sponsored portfolio development workshop.

The workshop will cover topics such as funding, searching for grants, foundations and awards, and preparing grant proposals. Participants will learn how to prepare their artist bio, write project statements, organize visual and audio materials for submission and put together a project budget.

The workshop will also deal with less concrete issues, such as figuring out the best time to apply, and the application as a learning process.

The session will be directed by Sadira Rodrigues, currently a Visual Arts Development Award Co-ordinator for the Vancouver Foundation, as well as a curator of contemporary art on both local and international stages, and sessional instructor at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

The workshop is scheduled to take place April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MY (Millennium) Place. Registration is restricted to individual visual artists and will not deal with funding issues for organizations or groups. The workshop fee is $20 for Whistler Arts Council Members, $25 for non-members. Enrolment will be limited to 25 participants accepted on a first come, first served basis.
