Balding for Dollars nets $27K for B.C. Children’s Hospital

With the resort slower and things a little tighter for locals this year, Balding for Dollars organizers Dave and Wendy Clark of the Whistler Friends of B.C. Children’s Hospital group weren’t expecting to hit any new milestones.

With the resort slower and things a little tighter for locals this year, Balding for Dollars organizers Dave and Wendy Clark of the Whistler Friends of B.C. Children’s Hospital group weren’t expecting to hit any new milestones.

But the hard work of one fundraiser helped the third annual Whistler Balding for Dollars event set a new record for donations. This year’s total of $27,619 was almost $5,000 more than was raised last year.

The money will go to support the patients and families receiving treatment for cancer and blood disorders at B.C. Children’s Hospital.

Of the new record total an incredible $17,300 was raised by one man, Jamie Pitblado of Vancouver.

This year 35 participants agreed to have their heads shaved – after raising pledges from friends, families, and co-workers – at the GLC last Saturday. The shaving honours belonged to the Blackcomb Barber Shoppe for the third year as they celebrated their own 10 th anniversary.

A raffle was also held, raising more than $1,000. Prizes were donated by Trout Country Fishing Guides, Summit Ski Bike and Board, Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, Alpine Springs Bed and Breakfast, The Vancouver Sun and The Province newspapers, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Whistler Heli-skiing, the Delta Whistler Resort and the Chateau Whistler Golf Course.

Another $1,000 was raised at the first Balding for Dollars event that was held at Meadow Park Sports Centre on April 1. That event was sponsored by The Loft, The Parlor Hair Salon, Farfalla Hair and Body Spa.

The Clarke’s are planning additional Whistler Friends of B.C. Children’s Hospital fundraisers in the future. To donate or volunteer your time contact Dave or Wendy Clarke at 604-905-2533.
