Province unveils new land database

The Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management this week launched a new Internet portal that provides a single database for all of B.C.

The Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management this week launched a new Internet portal that provides a single database for all of B.C.’s land and resource information, products and electronic services for business, academia, municipal governments and the public.

The Land Information B.C. portal puts together all of the different land information held by different ministries, simplifying searches for users. It also provides access to 30 different MSRM services ranging from maps to documents to government reports. It also includes interactive mapping tools and a tutorial on using the portal.

Some examples of different feature sections include Mineral Tenures and Information, Endangered Species and Ecosystems, and an Air Photo Inventory.

Online services available include base mapping; fish, wildlife and plants; forests, grasslands and wetlands; fresh water and marine; land ownership and status; mineral, soils, oil and gas; and tourism and recreation.

The portal was created to help streamline government services by putting all government land information under one roof.

You can access the new Land Information B.C. portal at www.gov.bc.ca/srm.
