The Community Foundation of Whistler currently manages 17 different non-profit funds with holdings of more than $1.9 million.
Starting this month, donors creating new funds have the choice of investing that money in Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) accounts. SRI accounts put money in socially and environmentally responsible companies, avoiding companies that treat workers poorly, pollute, or manufacture products like cigarettes, alcohol and weapons.
The investments in the new SRI funds are formally assessed by an external company, Michael Jantzi Research Associates, and monitored for socially responsible performance and business practices.
The income on the new fund will be calculated separately from the CFOWs existing investments.
