More than 400 elite squash players from around the country took part in the Canadian Squash Championships at the Hollyburn Country Club in Vancouver last weekend, vying for national titles in age group and open categories.

One player from Squamish and two players from Whistler took part, and all finished at the top of their respective age categories.

From Whistler, Rob Eberhard was fourth in the men’s 35 to 39 age group, losing in the semi-finals to the competitor that went on to win the title.

"I wasn’t expecting to come anywhere close to fourth," said Eberhard. "I just happened to have a good draw, and I was probably playing a lot better than I usually do. Still it was fun."

Ben Thomas, who won the amateur title last year, competed in the 30 to 34 draw, where he was knocked out in the round of eight after facing the eventual champion.

Gavin Edwards of Squamish won the men’s 65-Plus category. This is his second national title after he won the 60-Plus title four years ago.

All three players are taking part in the 10 th annual Whistler-Squamish Classic next week at Meadow Park.
