It started off as a plan to get women to teach other women the ropes of backcountry skiing over a weekend, and grew from that into a three-day conference dedicated to women’s sports, health and lifestyle.

The Every Woman in the World Conference takes place from July 1 to August 1 around Whistler, and includes women’s only workshops on yoga, meditation, body rolling, massage therapy, as well as mountain biking, running, gymnastics, hip-hop dancing and belly dancing. Separate canoeing, rafting, horseback, and ATV tours will be available to participants.

“This is about active women of all ages coming together and sharing and growing and becoming more than we already are,” says Kerry Kanuka, the founder of the event and owner of Impact Activities. Every Woman in the World Events and Impact Activities are producing the conference.

“This is an opportunity to get a taste of an activity that you may never have tried before in a fun, comfortable setting with a group of dynamic and energetic women.”

Many of the workshop leaders are volunteering their time to keep registration costs down, and the list of instructors keeps growing. Olympic bronze medallist Lynn Williams will be hosting the running clinic and Canadian National Gymnastics champion Janine Rankin will be offering a massage therapy clinic. Other workshop leaders are being recruited from the Whistler area, while others have not taught formally before but are excited to share their skills.
