Local designer to stage Cat Fight at Xit’olacw

What: Cat Fight

Where: Xit’olacw Community School

When: Thursday, June 10, 8 p.m.

Mount Currie isn’t exactly Paris or Milan when it comes to haute couture.

But fashion is unpredictable and as Madonna intoned in her ’90s club anthem Vogue : beauty’s where you find it.

Intrigued local fashionistas can find it this Thursday evening at Xit’olacw Community School, where designer Levi Nelson will be staging a fashion show with his own creations.

Titled Cat Fight , the show will use local models and be set to music by Marilyn Manson, The White Stripes, The Doors and Gus Gus.

Nelson describes the collection as "Pat Benetar meets Samantha from Sex and the City. Fashion for women who are confident and sexy and not afraid to flaunt it."

Currently living in Pemberton, Nelson is a former student of Toronto’s International Academy of Design. Thursday’s show will be his first signature event.

The show is set to begin at 8 p.m. with admission by donation.

Re-Use-It gets runway treatment

What: Enviro Fashion Show

Where: Town Plaza

When: Saturday, June 5, 2 p.m.

Whistler’s Environment Week takes a trendy twist this weekend.

Saturday’s Enviro-Fest in Whistler Village Town Plaza includes a fashion show styled with items from Function Junction’s Re-Use-It Centre – Whistler’s one and only thrift shop.

The eclectic looks will show how fashion can be friendlier on your wallet and also reduce the demand for sweatshop-produced textiles.

The Enviro-Festivities also include live music by local folkie Leanne Lamour and friends, and an open jam using instruments made entirely from castaway items. Enviro-Fest runs from noon until 4 p.m.
