What: Lunaflicks Taxi
Where: Base II Parking Lot (Blackcomb Mountain)
When: Thursday, June 17
Tickets: $2 - $15
The program (the acronym translates to Late and Unique Nighttime Alternatives) debuted last summer under the direction of youth outreach worker Tessa McLoughlin with a series of wildly popular outdoor movie screenings at Lost Lake Park.
LUNA then took a hiatus during the fall, during which time new co-ordinator Kiran Pal was hired.
Pals first order of business was to recruit a crew of volunteers, all of whom received event administration training.
LUNAs winter series, which wrapped up at the end of April, included pool parties, a hockey night, breakdancing/martial arts sessions, climbing and an evening of Thai massage and yoga.
The upcoming summer series will continue the movie tradition under the quirky new name, Lunaflicks.
The first Lunaflick will be 1998 French screwball comedy Taxi , which will screen as a drive-in movie at the Base II parking lot on Blackcomb Mountain.
LUNA events are specifically targeted to those of bar hopping age to reduce rowdiness and crime in Whistler Village. However, flick fans of all ages are welcome to attend the screenings. The events are strictly alcohol-free, billed cheekily as "good times youll remember!"
Taxi will begin at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, June 17. Admission is $2 for pedestrians or $15 per car.
