Themed summer street entertainment kicks off on Canada Day

July 1 marks the kick-off of Tourism Whistler’s 2004 Street Entertainment Program.

In a change from previous years, this summer’s free entertainment is organized into a wide range of themes.

Running from July 1-4, the first theme, "O Canada," will feature numerous local performers as well as Corporal Dave Smith of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Smith will be accompanied by his faithful partners, Justice the horse and Moose Jaw the dog.

The second theme, which coincides with the Whistler Arts and Music Festival, will be "Colorful Characters," featuring the antics of the Colossal Canadian Couple and the tricks of Sand Northrup, a 15-year-old unicyclist, stilt walker, and juggler.

Other themes include Latin Heat, Classical Music in the Mountains, A Tribute to Juggling, World Music, Theatre in the Streets, Jazz, Blues n’ Swing, and a weekend of sporty entertainment coinciding with the CrankWorx Whistler Summer Bike Festival.

The street entertainment series wraps up Sept. 3-6 with a Celebration of Psyche and Soul, featuring palm and tarot card reading, a mystic fair, workshops, and "spiritual" street entertainment.
