Purple Pirate to perform at Teddy Bear Picnics

B.C.’s one and only pedal-powered children’s entertainer, the Purple Pirate, will perform at the Teddy Bear Picnics in Pemberton on Saturday and Whistler on Sunday.

To celebrate Bike Month, the pedalling pirate will perform Prepare for Adventure , an interactive comedy show for children covering various aspects of bike safety.

The Pirate will arrive via his custom designed reclining bicycle, made to look like a purple pirate ship.

An ex-logger and commercial fisherman, he routinely cycles to his events, as far away as Banff and Prince George. He will cycle from Vancouver to Pemberton on Friday, June 25.

Named Children’s Entertainer of the Year for 2003, the Purple Pirate hopes his example will inspire both children and adults to take up cycling and realize the fun and adventure of an active lifestyle.

The Pemberton Teddy Bear Picnic will take place on Saturday, June 26 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the gym at the Pemberton Community Centre. This free family event will also feature a teddy doctor and balloon-animal making.

The Whistler Teddy Bear Picnic will take place on Sunday, June 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Myrtle Phillip Community School. In addition to the Purple Pirate, the picnic will include face painting, craft making, and children’s games. In the spirit of the event, participants are encouraged to bike or walk to Myrtle Phillip.
