Whistler athletes up to Half Iron

Seven members of Whistler’s Triathlon Club took part in the New Balance Half Iron in Victoria on Sunday, swimming two kilometres, biking 91.8 km and running 20 km.

The event was a qualifier for the Canadian Ironman Championships in Penticton in August.

Ian Goard was once again the top Whistler athletes, finishing 34 th overall and sixth in the men’s 30 to 34 age group with a time of four hours, 43 minutes and six seconds. He was 191 st after the swim, 39 th on the bike and 37 th on the run.

Paul Suter, an Ironman veteran, was 50 th overall and seventh in the men’s 40 to 44 division in 4:49:58.

David Higgins, racing in his first half iron, was 54 th overall and 10 th in the 30 to 34 group in 4:50:44.

He was followed closely by triathlon veteran Paul Nicholas who was 55 th overall in 4:51:18, finishing 15 th in the 35 to 39 age group.

In 162 nd overall, 20 th out of 175 women, and 13 th in the 30 to 34 group was Marie-Anne Prevost in 5:19:28.

Christine Suter was 234 th overall and eighth in the 35 to 39 group with her time of 5:34:35.

Brandi Higgins was 27 th in the 30 to 34 group in a time of 6:04:51.

The fastest athlete from the corridor was Squamish’s Gord Addison who was 10 th overall and third in the men’s 35-39 race.
