They are hoping the province will allow minors into bars until 9 p.m. as long they are accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.
The move was unanimously supported at the council table on Monday night.
The recommendation follows on the heels of a current provincial policy, which allows minors into bars owned and operated by the downhill ski operator, like Whistler-Blackcomb bars Merlins, the GLC and Dustys. Minors are only allowed in those bars until 7 p.m.
The one-year pilot program with the Whistler-Blackcomb bars has been a success and the company supports extending the program to other establishments within the resort.
Originally staff recommended the 7 p.m. time limit for all resort bars.
Councillor Ken Melamed pushed council to have the time extended.
"Theres no difference between apres ski and a bar at nine oclock," he said.
Councillor Nick Davies asked that staff come back with a series of recommendations for council to consider when extending the hours, specifically relating to pornography in the washrooms and smoking in the establishment.
The mayor will now send a letter to the province recommending a change in the policy, with approval subject to local government review based on individual applications.
