Samurai deadline this weekend

Past Samurai of Singletrack participants only have a few days left to sign up for the 2004 epic ride before the registration is opened up to everyone else.

The pre-registration period ends on Monday, Aug. 2 and starting on Tuesday morning however many spots are left out of the 100 available will be offered on a first-come/first served basis.

This is the fourth year for the Samurai of Singletrack, which is an epic ride on some of Whistler’s most challenging trails. Courses have varied in length, but courses usually include a network of 15 to 20 trails.

Last year’s Samurai was 63 kilometres, and this year’s should be similar, but a little more technical. The course will remain a secret until the last Loonie race of the season because the organizers, Tony Horn and Ru Mehta, don’t want anybody training for the main event.

Each year the previous year’s participants get the first chance to sign up, and less than 20 spots have been opened up to the public each year. Horn has a list of 56 riders who have ridden in every Samurai. The riders that make it to the seventh and final year of the series will be crowned as ‘Ultimate Samurai’s’.

The $80 entry fee, for WORCA members only, includes race support, shirts, draw prizes and the now legendary dinner and party at Teppan Village.

You can drop off your entry at Slope Side Supply in Function Junction at 1365 Alpha Lake Road, Unit 4.
