Awards pile up for Whistler

Ski Magazine names Whistler Mountain Bike Park in "Best of Summer" roundup

In its first-ever "Best of Summer" mountain roundup, SKI magazine recognized the Whistler Mountain Bike Park in its "Best Mountain Biking" category.

In the July 2004 issue the magazine lauded Whistler’s self-guided-skills centers and noted that with its camps, lessons and tours, Whistler has something for everyone. SKI also took note of this year’s Garbanzo expansion.

Whistler was named alongside Mammoth Mountain, California; Mount Snow, Vermont; and Snowshow, West Virginia.

Riverside RV Resort and Campground receives Woodall’s Five Diamond W rating

Whistler’s Riverside RV Resort and Campground was recently awarded two "Five Diamond W" ratings – the highest possible campground rating – from Woodall’s Publications, publishers of Woodall’s, The Campground Directory .

Woodall’s ratings are based on the facilities and recreation opportunities available at the campground. Riverside is now one of seven private campgrounds in B.C. currently rated "Five Diamond W." Only 1.4 per cent of all private campgrounds in North America have received similar ratings.

"We are extremely proud to have received the highest possible rating from Woodall’s. It’s a credit to the hard work of our staff and management team," said Riverside owner Nigel Woods.

"Whistler can now add a five-star campground to its range of world-class facilities."

Intrawest wins National Retail Award

Intrawest recently won the Retail Employee Development Award at the ninth annual Retailing Awards Gala held this year in Toronto.

The award is presented by the Retail Council of Canada to the retailer that has developed a comprehensive recognition and training program for its sales and customer service staff.

Christine McLeod, Director of Retail Training, explained in a press release that part of Intrawest’s success in this area is due to the fact that its programs are designed in-house. This results in the flexibility to adapt to the specific cultures and business needs of each resort.

"Our numbers speak for themselves," said McLeod. "Our programs empower our staff to take ownership of their stores, their guests, and their team. We provide the tools and the inspiration, we set the bar high, and we reward excellence. This winning combination has delivered results year after year that would make any retailer proud. And we are very proud of our teams."

Since 1996 Whistler Blackcomb has received four Retail Council awards for training and store design, including Retailer of the Year.
