"I’m totally, totally honoured and humbled to be in the presence of the likes of Dave Murray and Steve Podborski and Nancy Green and Robbie Boyd. I mean, holy cow, it’s quite an honor," said Chew.
"That’s a big thing for me, and it’s nice that (Whistler Blackcomb) have recognized disabled sports, seeing that we’re getting the Paralympics."
Whistler Blackcomb recently apologized for omitting Chew from the original group of plaque recipients.
Chew referred to the oversight as a "boo-boo" and was quick to mention the support that he and the B.C. Disabled Ski Team has received over the years from Whistler Blackcomb.
"A lot of people might not know this, but since I’ve been coaching the B.C. Disabled Ski Team for the last 12 years, we’ve put 12 members… on the National Ski Team. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Whistler Blackcomb have been our sponsor," he said.
"As far as my point of view goes, I want to just be positive. I’m not mad," Chew noted. "I was a little disillusioned at the beginning, when I saw those guys getting their awards and I saw the article in the paper, but you know what, I’m not going to have a sleepless night over it, I’m not that kind of person. But it’s good that this happened and there is more awareness happening from it."
