More to the STORMY story…

In last week’s coverage of the Squamish Test of Running Metal – Yeah! race, a 67 km ultra trail run around the Test of Metal course, Pique’s coverage missed a pair of local runners.

Whistler’s Gary Robbins finished 20 th overall, completing the race in six hours, 53 minutes and 37 seconds. Mark Fearman tied North Vancouver’s Ean Jackson for 24 th place with a time of 7:08:18.

According to Robbins, Jackson convinced Fearman and him to enter the race, and ran with the pair the whole way.

"He easily could have been top 10 but was more concerned with making sure we finished the race," said Robbins. "As I said, neither of us had run more than 35 km before race day."

From the Squamish group, Andrew Clark was the first local in seventh place overall in 5:51.34. Brackendale’s Wendy Montgomery, the winner of the women’s event, also set a course record with her time of 5:52:41.

Dwayne Kress of Garibaldi Highlands was 14 th overall in 6:30:35, and was third in the combined STORMY / Test of Metal combination category – competitors who rode the course in June and ran it in August.

Tyler Jordan of Squamish was 15 th overall in 6:34:12, and fourth in the combined category.

Ten runners pulled out of the race because of the heat, while nine runners elected not to start. Some 59 runners completed the course.
