Ellis holds her own at provincial swimming championships

Whistler’s Samantha Ellis qualified for the finals in every single event she entered at the provincial swimming championships in Burnaby last week

Whistler’s Samantha Ellis qualified for the finals in every single event she entered at the provincial swimming championships in Burnaby last week, holding her own against swimmers from a record 62 clubs around B.C. She qualified by finishing in the top-three at the recent regional meet in Squamish in three individual and two team events.

Ellis finished seventh in the 100-metre Backstroke, 13 th in the 50M Butterfly and 100M Breaststroke, and 16 th in the Individual Medley. In addition, she swam the Butterfly leg of the 4X50Medley Relay and the anchor leg of the 4X50M Freestyle Relay, finishing fifth and seventh respectively.

Ellis trains with the Whistler Seawolves during the winter months, and spent her summers training with the Squamish Pirates. Locally, her coaches are Brandi Higgins, who helps run the Masters Swim program, and Jenny Simmons. In Squamish she trains under Kelly Kaye.
