Wheel Up this Saturday

After a year’s hiatus, the 11th annual West Side Wheel Up mountain bike ride and race will return this Saturday, Sept. 18.

The course uses trails off of Alta Lake Road, starting in Function Junction on the old Millar Creek Road, and finishing just outside of Rainbow Park. Some of the trails in the course include Lower Sproatt, Beaver Pass, Whip Me Snip Me, Bob’s Rebob and River Runs Through It.

The cost is $20 to enter, with all proceeds going towards the B.C. Disabled Ski Team. In addition, all participants will be eligible to win from a long list of draw prizes, including a dual mountain ski pass from Whistler-Blackcomb and two nights accommodation at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

The sign-on begins at 10:30 a.m. at the turnoff to Function Junction and the race starts at noon.

Organizer Phil Chew is looking for volunteer course marshals on bikes to help mark the course. If you’re interested, call 604-932-2110.
