Harvest Huckfest this weekend

Boneyard Bike Jam, Max Vert Enduro highlight mountain bike weekend

There may be snow up top, but mountain biking season is not over yet.

This weekend Whistler-Blackcomb is hosting their fourth annual Harvest Huckfest, with grass roots downhill and freeride events.

The weekend kicks off with the Boneyard Bike Jam, a scaled down version of the Slopestyle Expression Session held during the CrankWorx Festival in July. Riders will have a chance to show off their skills in the lower section of the park, riding the obstacles and showing off their skills on the jumps for a panel of judges.

This event is open to riders 13 years and older, with categories for Groms (13 to 15), Juniors (16 to 18), Open Male (19 and Over) and Open Female (19 and Over).

Training takes place from 10 a.m. to noon, and there will be a mandatory competitor meeting at 1 p.m.

The fun gets underway at 1:30 p.m., just after the first riders are expected to finish the Cheakamus Challenge Fall Classic mountain bike race.

The cost is $20 to enter, and riders can register at Guest Relations or by calling 1-800-766-0449. In addition to prizes, the top rider will win an entry spot into next year’s CrankWorx Slopestyle Expression Session.

On Sunday the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and WORCA will be hosting the fourth annual Max Vert Enduro, this time with a twist – all of the riders will be dropping 2,200 vertical feet with each lap by taking laps through the Garbanzo Zone – weather permitting.

The course is No Joke, unless it’s raining, in which case the race will be moved to Dirt Merchant and A-Line.

The rider in each category with the most laps between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. wins.

Registration gets underway at 9 a.m., and participants have to start uploading for 9:30.

The cost is $20 to enter and a special $10 lift ticket is available for the event. All the proceeds will go towards WORCA, which will use the funds for trail maintenance around the valley and youth programs.

There are categories for junior male and female (13 to 19) and open male and female.
