Brand new production house Brainwash Cinema will show their new 16mm snowboard film BAMM! at the Garibaldi Lift Co. on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 7.
Brainwash itself may be new this year, but the filmmakers and riders, many of whom were formerly associated with now defunct local filmmaking house Treetop Films, have deep roots in the area.
Expect more great things on screen from Shin and Shandy Campos, Tyeson Carmody, Mike Osachuk, Jon Cartwright and more.
Doors for the BAMM! screening open at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7. The night also features the GLC’s Thursday DJ Rob Banks.
Tickets are $6 at the door.
Across the plaza at the Longhorn on the same night, two-plankers will want to catch the premiere of renowned local new-school ski crew Jibculture’s first film, Disturbing the Piste.
According to Jibculture’s Nate Loder, the crew formed in 2000, when skiers were rarer sightings in Whistler’s snow terrain parks.
But as new-school freestyle skiing gained popularity so did Jibculture’s reputation. Wide interest in their signature bright yellow team hoodies led to the development of a successful clothing line.
A team video was a natural next step, especially considering the current Jibculture crew includes new-school rulers such as Chris Turpin, Dana Flahr, Rex Thomas and Mauro Nunez. The flick includes a hilarious "Railer Park Boys" send up of the popular Showcase Canadian TV series Trailer Park Boys.
Disturbing the Piste screens Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Longhorn. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
On Monday, Oct. 11 those insatiable for new school skiing action will want to swing by the Savage Beagle for the Whistler premiere of East Coast-based Level 1 Productions’ latest film, High Five.
The film features a mix of new faces and recognizable ski-flick veterans under the direction of L1’s Josh Berman.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
