Province, UBCM working together on IPPs

In an effort to promote the development of clean energy sources, namely independent power projects, the provincial government has signed a partnership agreement with the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.

"We are working with local governments to deliver benefits to communities," said George Abbott, minister responsible for Land and Water B.C.

"By working together and bringing all the players to the table we can provide clarity for power producers and ensure the interests of communities are addressed."

The province and the UBCM have established a working group to improve communications and information sharing at all levels.

The improved co-ordination is designed to simplify the approval process for IPP developers.

The agreement was signed during the UBCM conference in Kelowna last week.
